SHADOW
VFX SHOWCASE: ACTOR CLONE EFFECT
PRODUCTION DATE:
March, 2024
EDITED ON:
Adobe Aftereffects (Composite), Adobe Premiere Pro (Editing) , Davinci Resolve (Colour)
(Effect starts at 3m:15s)
BREAKDOWN:
This scene is an exercise created to study the "clone" effect and how to seamlessly integrate it into a scene. I went the extra mile and decided to film a few more scenes.

The scene was filmed twice with the same actor in different roles, using a stand-in actor which is then masked out.
The greatest challenge was the dark nature of the scene making the actor's edges less defined which made rotoscoping not so accurate, so I opted to manually keyframe a mask around the actor instead.
The "stretching" effect when the clone appears is done by keyframing an increase in the width of the clone's plate as he exits and applying a linear wipe to opacity, along with a easy ease on movement so he accelerates rather than exits at a constant speed.
