Hello! Thanks for stopping by, if we haven't met in person, I'm Sammy Lyu, nice to meet you. I currently study Sidefx Houdini (and a little bit of Nuke, maybe a sprinkle of UE5). Building up a portfolio as a 3D and effects artist. I used to (and still do sometimes) freelance as a video editor and camera operator.

For me, producing good work and having an organised schedule go hand in hand. Being a professional isn't just about training and mastering the required skills, it's also about putting in the hours even when you don't want to and listening to the people you work with. That is the mindset I bring to my projects.
I've always wanted to work in the film and games industry. I tried going the "normal" route, got an economics and cybersecurity degree, but that didn't work out. Since 2021, I have completed a few film courses, found work and volunteered on countless projects. I am here to stay and develop my passion into a visual effects career.
Although I was adamant about a film career, I didn't know my specialisation. So I started as anyone else would, I studied acting full-time for 6 months.
During that time, I also studied post-production and filmmaking part-time in the same school. Eventually, post-production won my heart, I started freelancing as a video editor and camera operator, which led me down the visual effects path.
Now I currently devote my time to studying Houdini and Nuke. In my spare time, I would like to learn Unreal Engine 5.
Just for entertainment's sake, here's my acting and voice reel from 2022. Enjoy.
I have always adored early 2000s films like Cloverfield and Jumper or CG films like Robert Zemeckis's Beowulf growing up. I am a strong believer in learning from past pioneers.
I was also a massive gamer and a fan of pop punk, especially the Elder Scrolls series and Fall Out Boy, which actually inspired my current interest in 3D, CGI and creative storytelling.
In my spare time, I play golf and keep fish.
